Johnson State College, a public, four-year liberal arts college, emphasizes students' self development with what the college terms "education by engagement."
The college is for students who like to get involved in political, social, artistic and athletic activities. The school has long maintained a commitment to educating the whole student in an interdisciplinary manner and has a history of bringing visiting poets, playwrights, politicians, and artists to campus.
